Tensioned fabric sails on sturdy posts that cool play areas, patios and pool decks with a modern, sculptural look.
A shade sail is simple and striking: a piece of strong fabric pulled tight between posts and anchors, angled so water runs off and the sun stays out. It costs less than a built roof and can cover odd shapes and large areas that are hard to roof any other way.
We design the sail layout for your sun and space, choose a fabric with good UV blocking and breathability and install posts with deep footings and tensioning hardware. A sail only works when it is tight and anchored for load, so we pay close attention to post size, angle and attachment points.
Sails are hung at an angle with one corner lower so rain runs off. Overlapping sails can cover larger areas and create a layered look.
Breathable knit fabrics let hot air escape and block much of the sun. Waterproof fabrics shed rain but trap heat and need more slope.
A sail pulls hard on its posts. We use large steel or timber posts set in concrete, sized for the tension.
In heavy snow or storms, some owners take sails down. We design attachments so removal and reinstallation are easy.

Waterproof sails do, breathable sails do not. We explain the tradeoff.
Quality fabric often lasts many years. UV and wind wear eventually require replacement.
Usually from loose tension or weak anchors. We build for proper tension and adjust as the fabric settles.
