What to Expect When Building a Pergola

A walk through a typical pergola project from the first call to the final walk-through, so there are no surprises.

The first call and yard visit

We ask about your plans, then visit to see the yard, the house and the sun. You receive honest feedback on what the project involves.

We take photos and measurements for the design.

Design and proposal

We draw a plan with sizes and materials and write a proposal that lists what is included. We review it with you.

Nothing starts until you are comfortable.

Permits and approvals

If your city or HOA needs approval, we prepare the drawings and help with submissions. Approvals take time, so we start early.

We keep you updated.

Footings and posts

After utilities are located, footings are dug and poured and posts are set plumb and level. Concrete needs time to cure.

This is the most important step of the build.

Beams, rafters and details

Beams and rafters go up, with brackets, braces and decorative cuts. Lights, fans and roofing are added as planned.

You can see progress daily.

Finishing and walk-through

We stain or paint, clean up and walk the finished pergola with you. You receive care tips and a contact number.

Questions are answered before we leave.

Our advice in one sentence

Expect a yard visit, a written plan, early approvals, careful footings and a clean finish with a final walk-through.
